According to every MM story featuring bikers, they are a rough lot drawn together by their dysfunctional pasts and desire for anarchy, but they have secret hearts of gold. Their ability to live in a gray world between right and wrong is supposed to be alluring and dangerous for the reader. This book is no exception to the trope. However, this author cannot seem to determine whether she wants the featured bikers in this book to be good guys or bad guys. Well, obviously, she wants them to be bad guys with hearts of gold, but they come across as posers. None of them are hard-edged enough to be taken seriously as bad-a**ed. They all seem like normal guys who own motorcycles and decide to form their own club. This is "Biker-Gang Lite". But aside from the lack of believability in this gang's status, there were several other moments in this story that were difficult to fathom. 1)I never really felt the connection between Gunner and Logan. Their differences seemed to be too jarring to be potential love interests. The notion of "opposites-attract" didn't work for me in this story. 2) Why would Amelia allow Gunner to retain custody of Maddie for 5 years when she was in potential danger the entire time. When Gunner was awarded custody of Maddie in court, how did a judge ever allow him (her half-brother and a biker/mechanic) to have custody and not Amelia (her half-sister) who was an attorney? 3)Later in the story, Gunner reminisces about strapping Maddie to his motorcycle 5 years prior and escapes from his ex-biker gang. SHE WAS A BABY! HOW DO YOU STRAP A BABY TO A MOTORCYCLE? Unbelievable! 4) there were several instances where a character was contradictorily described as short and thick and then later in the book as tall and lean. In addition to story inconsistencies/incongruities, I was frustrated with finding word ommissions (to, and, the, etc) and punctuation errors. A writer with this many books under their belt should not have proofreading errors at this point in their career. In the forward of the book, the author thanks her beta readers for doing a great job. Really? They didn't catch the grammar errors or point out the story inconsistencies and you thank them for doing a great job? Get better beta readers. If this is going to be the next franchise in this author's repertoire, I hope she gets more gritty with her storylines and better with her proofreading. This was an easily forgettable book. I liked this. A lot. I’m really excited for EM to branch out into this new writing territory because I think they write hurt/comfort like no ones business and nothing is more hurt/comfort than MC romance.I think the pacing was problematic. Or that it wasn’t long enough? The pacing of the unfolding relationship was fine, but the pacing of the overall plot was too quick and I felt like the ending was rushed. I couldn’t get over how quickly everything was just...fine? And personally, if I was Olivia, I would have put up much more of a fuss. I couldn’t actually wrap my head around that part. Yeeess, I want an HEA here, but not if it means a 5 year old is caught in the middle of mc gang wars. right?! Maybe this story would have gone over better for me at the end of the series when one could definitively say, yes, everything is safe. But I read the blurb for the next book and like...., more guns? Not safe? FIVE YEAR OLD. Idk.Also I want to leave this off because I feel like I’m beating a dead horse at this point but I just (!!!!!) need one extra proof-reader here.
